So, here goes a post about the actual work n the show. The original idea for this show as I had written in the previous post was to finish some unfinished works I had laying around. I really didn't have too much ambitions for them to be honest. But as I started working on them, adding printed collage elements to them, I started feeling like I had no idea where this would go. This was very exciting and I think I've entered a new realm so to speak. In my digital collages, I can make them as complex as I feel like, but with analog art making with its slowness and lack of techniques like "copy + paste" and "undo", it's really a different way of working. But, I think I've been able to achieve a bit more complexity. Complex isn't necessary good, but I took this as an experiment in how far I can take them.
I am showing a few examples of "before & after", but I have to say I am a poor photographer and I am not sure they really convey what you would see if you were to see them in person. Also, I seem to have not taken all of the "before" pictures as I had thought I did, so these ones I'm showing you are the ones that I did take the "before" pictures of.
The one above, it's obvious the left image is "before" and the right "after". The left image is much simpler and easier to "read", but for me the right one even though it is uneasy to read is much more satisfying.
This one above, I think was quite unresolved before and I'm not sure it is solved now, but I like this a lot more now as is.
This last one I wasn't sure what to make of before and not sure I completely grasp it as is now, but again much better as far as I'm concerned. Not sure if these are "good" artworks. They might be too busy without some space to breathe and not well balanced as compositions. If I wanted such things, I am probably doing it all wrong. There's too much random factors involved, but if I were to refine these to make them "better", they probably will lose something in the process. This was working with works that I had made sometime ago, so I think if I were to do this from scratch, that will be a whole different thing. I think I will be doing that at some point in the future unless I find some other thing I want to try instead. These were just 3 examples from the show, but I will be sharing more in the upcoming posts. I surprised myself how bad I am at talking about my work. I didn't go into teaching and giving lectures about my work like many artists do. Maybe writing these blogs will be good practice.
