Groundbreaking Virtual Platform!

At least I think it woud be. Maybe somebody's already thought of it. Maybe it's already been made, but I don't know about it. What am I talking about? Just a simple idea which came to mind as I had been thinking about showing artwork online. I recently heard that there's a new feature in Animal Crossing which enables you to decorate your in-game residence with artwork from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It led me to think if this is possible in game sphere, it should be possible to make a site or an application that enables you to create your own gallery with your own artwork.

This image above is just an example of what it could look like although if I had complete control to make it, it would look a lot different. I often feel like the visual art really lacks the means to reach people far and wide like other arts do. For example, music has so many ways for people to enjoy, like records, CD's, subscription, etc. Although people might have said in the beginning, that you can't replace a live performance with a recording. That may be true, but it enabled music to be appreciated all over the world for those who couldn't or wouldn't attend live concerts. Our world just wouldn't be the same without that invention. This idea may not be quite as radical as musical recording, but it could really change how art is viewed. We already have ways to see individual artworks online, but that is a far cry from the experience of seeing an art exhibit in person. I think some large museums already have virtual versions of their exhibits. That's great, but wouldn't it be cool if anyone could make a virtual show with their own or their favorite artwork? It's a no brainer for me. I've been having art shows for like 20+ years, but I can never have everybody I want to see it to all come because of geographical limitations. If you could have virtual shows, you could have everybody see it and there would be no limits like physical galleries have. In fact, you could make shows that would be impossible to do in real life and you can also do things you normally wouldn't be allowed to do, like touch the artwork, hold it, inspect it, you can even play catch with it if you wanted! This could be an entirely new way to make art. If something like that already exists, please let me know. I want to use it! If not, this would be a huge opportunity for any tech developers out there.

For myself, I see this idea as a way to show art, but this platform would be beneficial for other purposes. If anything, I think it would be a far more popular way to use it which is to do what we do in this consumer driven society, SHOP. Thinking about that really takes away from the fun thoughts of what I could do with this media, but it would definitely be a better way to shop online than scrolling through pages of icons and thumbnails.

I think this will eventually be made even if no one ever read this. It's such an obvious idea that I would be surprised if no one else thought of it. It would obviously help us now, but it could really revolutionize the art world in a way that we haven't experienced for some time. Having watched "Silicon Valley", I can't imagine the work that has to take place to make something new in IT, but I hope it happens sooner or later and that we all can have online art shows and share them like it's business as usual.

  1. I love this idea. I will share it with my AI Twitter people whom I follow. I’m sure someone is already working on this. I have seen large art prints that faithfully reproduce the texture of each brush stroke. (By using 3D printing). Textured detailed 3D works should be able to be shared virtually soon. Prints will be licensed, digital files sent to a nearby printer and produced locally
